Royal Wedding Dress Rumours Rubbished!

Will it be white, with hand-sewn roses, pure taffeta, cinched-in corsetry and what about that all-important train? The excitement around Kate Middleton’s wedding dress is reaching fever pitch, so much so that Julia Roebuck, a recent graduate from the London College of Fashion, has used her creative flare to create a unique one-of-a-kind dress for the “Footprint Awards 2011”!

Commissioned for the first-ever Footprint Awards and made using BioWare paper cups from leading packaging manufacturer Huhtamaki, Julia’s masterpiece is the perfect eye-catching creation for the newest member of the Royal family and is a fun take on a issue which still remains very topical, recycling. She makes the following comment:

“Kate’s a fashion icon; from the daring see-through slip that won her Prince William’s heart (which recently sold at auction for almost £80,000), she’s developed a classic, much-coveted style which sees her spark a fashion stampede in whatever she’s pictured wearing. She might have found ‘the dress’, but having recently been criticised by fashion legend Dame Vivienne Westwood for not being very adventurous, I decided to create a unique design with the royal wedding in mind – based on the fact that Kate’s not afraid to wear something more than once, so she’s the ideal inspiration behind my passion for up-cycling fashion!”

Julia’s dress has been designed to support the Footprint Awards, the UK’s first-ever Awards programme exclusively dedicated to rewarding contributions to sustainability and environmental excellence in hospitality. And it’s well known that Kate favours British designers; so along with the likes of Temperley, Mulberry and Burberry, perhaps Julia Roebuck could be the next name in fashion! The organisers certainly think so, and will be delighted for Kate to wear Julia’s one-of-a-kind creation should there be a wardrobe malfunction on the ‘big day’ – so long as it’s back for the Awards evening on 19th May!

See Julia’s Royal Wedding dress, together with a selection of other garments she’s created exclusively for the Awards, at the Footprint Awards dinner on 19th May 2011, RIBA, London.
